Born in Houston Texas, Derrick Fury spent his early years traveling and living in various cities before he finally returned to H-Town as a teenager. As a result, Derrick developed an appreciation for diversity as is reflected in his film-work today. Passionate about music, throughout much of his life, Derrick toured, performed and released his own brand of conscious hip-hop across the US, Europe and Asia. Now a filmmaker he writes, produces, shoots, directs and edits independent web series, music video's, as well as short and feature films in and around the Houston area, where he still lives.

Derrick was a High School and College basketball star at Lansing Sexton High School, Highland Park Community College and Sam Houston State University. Derrick played professional basketball over seas in Paraguay and Puerto Rico. Although Derrick went to college on a basketball scholarship acting has always been a love of his. Derrick got his start in acting when he was asked to play Tyler Perry's stand-in for the movie Alex Cross in 2011. Since then the acting bug bit Derrick and he has been going full steam ahead landing more and more roles. Derricks mother is Joann Gilliam and father Willie C. Florence. Derrick is married to Tameka Gilliam and they have 5 children, Rayshawn Devon Blackmon, Dominic Devon Gilliam, Danyae'Pugh, Denver Devonna Gilliam, and Dash Devon Gilliam. Derrick has 2 brothers, Brandon Gilliam and Jason Black and 1 sister Tammy Black and 3 grand-kids Zara, Dillon and Daxton.
With the creative desire to direct films, Derrick wrote and directed his first short film "Second Chances" in 2008. Since then Derrick has ambitiously went on to produce/direct other short films with film festival success, documentaries for local non-profit organizations (Susan G. Komen & Paws in the City), commercial contests and music videos for local Dallas musicians.
